I've been the Director of Fabrication of MIT's annual fashion show, the MIT Gala, since my freshman year. I organize campus-wide metal & textile fabrication workshops and offer fabrication expertise to 30+ fashion show designers.
I designed three pieces for the runway in 2024, including this aluminum corset. I modeled it as a three-dimensional surface on Rhino and produced multiple prototypes to perfect its tailored shape.
SELF ASSEMBLY
I used software developed by Nervous System to translate my 3D bodice model into 11 flat panels which, when cut and riveted together, self-assembled into the organic, anatomical form.
The red circles are rivet holes. They are marked with blue numbered pairs, where each hole corresponds to another one on an adjacent panel.
